Global One and Etec Systems Executives Join Equinix Management Team

Global Marketing and Operations Veterans Round Out Stellar Executive Team

Redwood City, CA – November 22, 1999 – Equinix, Inc., creator and operator of the first neutral IBX™ (Internet Business Exchange™)facilities today announced the appointments of Margie Backaus as chief marketing officer (CMO), and Roy Earle as vice president, IBX™ development and IBX™ operations. At Equinix, Ms. Backaus will drive the company’s strategic marketing, product development, and corporate branding programs. Mr. Earle will be responsible for the rollout and operations of Equinix IBX™ facilities around the world. Ms. Backaus and Mr. Earle will both report to Al Avery, president and CEO.

Ms. Backaus’ diverse background, most recently as vice president, market management at Global One, brings to Equinix extensive expertise in developing successful marketing strategy and programs ranging from brand management, market positioning and effective marketing communications. As former vice president of European operations at Etec Systems, a $250 million leader in the semiconductor equipment industry, Mr. Earle brings his strategic vision and proven operations expertise to Equinix.

Ms. Backaus joins Equinix with more than 12 years experience in the telecommunications industry, having held positions in consumer and business marketing both in the U.S. and internationally. At Global One, Ms. Backaus was responsible for the worldwide market strategy and execution for Global One products. Previously, she served as assistant vice president, consumer solutions for Global One resulting in an annual growth rate of over 40 percent in annual revenues. Prior to Global One, Ms. Backaus spent nine years at AT&T where she gained valuable experience in a number of different fields including U.S. and international marketing, product management, strategic alliances and regulatory affairs. Ms. Backaus holds a Bachelor of Arts in Accounting from Kennesaw College and a M.B.A from Emory University in Atlanta, Georgia.

As vice president of operations at Etec Systems, Mr. Earle managed the growth of the company’s operations from $80 to $200 million. More recently, Mr. Earl managed all sales, service and R&D activities for Etec in Europe. Prior to Etec Systems, he was chief operating officer and plant manager for Temic Semiconductor in the Philippines where he led a team of 1,000 employees. During his seven years at Temic Semiconductor, Mr. Earle held various positions including director of marketing and operations manager in Santa Clara, CA, and plant manager in the United Kingdom. He previously served at General Electric for eight years in engineering and management positions both in Ireland and the U.S. Mr. Earle holds a Bachelor of Science in Chemistry from University College Dublin, Ireland and a Master Degree in Material Science from the University of Sheffield, U.K.
