MOUNTAIN VIEW, Calif., Oct. 4 /PRNewswire/ -- Equinix, Inc. (Nasdaq: EQIX), creator and operator of the only neutral Internet Business Exchange(TM) (IBX(TM)) centers, today announced the introduction of IBXflex(TM), the industry's first infrastructure solution allowing customers to deploy mission-critical operations, equipment and personnel within Equinix IBX centers. IBM (NYSE: IBM) is the first IBX customer to leverage IBXflex to support its recently announced IBM e-Business Hosting Centers located in Equinix IBX centers (Editor's note: please see Equinix press release dated 9/19/00).
IBXflex allows best-of-breed providers to establish mission-critical operations centers at IBX centers and interconnect with their customers, such as content providers and e-commerce companies, located in the same IBX center. With on-site 24-hour access, providers can quickly respond and troubleshoot their customers' mission-critical sites in a fraction of the time current solutions allow. IBXflex allows customers, for the first time, the opportunity to chose from on-site management companies, equipment providers or other service providers for enhanced performance of their Internet operations.
IBXflex represents Equinix's ongoing commitment to responding to customer requirements for unprecedented flexibility and service. In support of customer need to continuously improve uptime, IBXflex will also enable IBX participants, particularly site management and hardware companies, to provide the quickest response times for equipment replacement. With on-site availability and management, equipment can be replaced in a matter of minutes, significantly increasing the service level agreements (SLAs) and other performance commitments that IBX participants can offer to their customers.
"In addition to offering our customers the widest range of hosting services from colocation to fully outsourced hosting, IBM rapidly deploys our highly skilled resources to deliver the highest levels of customer service," said Kevin Gropp, vice president, managed e-business services, IBM. "Combined with our broad geographic coverage, IBXflex is a tremendous asset to our customers wherever they may be located."
"With the introduction of IBXflex, Equinix is leading the market in offering the necessary infrastructure to provide customers with greater control in the monitoring and administration of their services and Internet operations, resulting in enhanced performance and service levels. No other companies in this space are offering this service," said Peter Van Camp, CEO of Equinix.
IBXflex allows direct interconnection between IBXflex customers and their onsite partners and customers, for high-performance, scalable and cost-effective Internet operations management and support. IBXFlex units are equipped with the same cutting-edge environmental support systems and highly sensitive security control found throughout Equinix IBX centers.
