Enron to Enable IBX™ Participants to Deliver Rich Media Content Up to 50 Times Faster Than the Public Internet

San Jose, Calif. – April 11, 2000 – Equinix, Inc., creator and operator of the only neutral Internet Business Exchange™ (IBX™) centers, and Enron Broadband Services, a wholly owned subsidiary of Enron Corp. (NYSE: ENE) and a leader in the delivery of high-bandwidth application services, today announced an agreement to provide broadband services for the delivery of rich media content throughout Equinix IBX™ centers. Enron’s broadband services will first be available in Equinix’s Silicon Valley, New York and Washington, D.C., area IBX™ centers.

Enron’s presence at Equinix IBX™ centers will enable ISPs to directly link to Enron’s national fiber-optic Enron Intelligent Network to deliver multifaceted rich media offerings, including synchronized video, audio, text, animation, graphics and e-commerce with guaranteed quality of service and speeds up to 50 times faster than the public Internet.

“Equinix IBX™ centers’ neutral environment will enable Enron to reach a large number of potential customers within each facility,” said Joe Hirko, CEO of Enron Broadband Services. “Because we can deliver our industry-leading broadband services directly to a concentrated number of ISPs, it will dramatically enhance their ability to provide fast and reliable high-bandwidth audio and video content to end-users.”

“Enron’s participation in Equinix IBX™ centers is another milestone in our commitment to offer our customers the best choice of carriers, service providers and site and performance management companies to help them grow their business in ways never before possible,” said Al Avery, CEO for Equinix.

Equinix IBX™ centers provide a secure home for the Internet where content providers, ASPs and e-commerce companies have the ability to interconnect with a choice of best-in-class carriers, ISPs, and site and performance management companies. Content providers and e-commerce companies can deliver content faster, access multiple networks, eliminate local loop charges, increase transaction-based revenues and increase customer satisfaction via a higher quality customer web experience. Carriers, ISPs, and site and performance management companies can service a larger customer base, save on training and staffing operations, and increase revenue.

Equinix’s IBX™ centers provide improved levels of operational efficiency and reliability. Equinix customers locate their mission-critical hardware in these financial-grade fortresses because they have access to a unique combination of global partners and customers, services and security designed to reduce Internet operations costs and increase revenues. Security features include 24x7 guards, biometric hand-geometry scanners on all doors and cages, disaster protection and tightly controlled customer access. In addition, Equinix’s trained Internet/telco-savvy staff is available on-site 24-hours a day, seven days a week to optimize operational uptime.

The Enron Intelligent Network is based on a distributed server architecture, a pure Internet protocol (IP) strategy, Enron’s fiber and satellite distribution, and the embedded software intelligence that sets it apart from other network providers. The Enron Intelligent Network enables a whole new breed of application services, called ePower™ services, which transport rich media and live, streaming video, faster than using the public Internet.
